A LARGE tree was toppled by strong winds last night.
Branches lay strewn across the Preston New Road, opposite Salmesbury Hall, affecting traffic travelling westbound.
A police officer directed motorists around the tree at around 7.20am while it was inspected by experts.
The stretch of road past the historic hall is an avenue of tall trees, with several branches also scattered across the road and pavement following the heavy winds.
